✜ Red Shadows (In Progress)
Author

Red Shadows is an interdisciplinary work examining the forensic, cultural, and systemic barriers surrounding Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). The project explores how gaps in identification—such as limited access to dental records, absent paternal DNA, and inconsistencies in institutional response—intersect with broader issues of colonial history, jurisdictional complexity, and cultural misrepresentation. Drawing from forensic anthropology, criminal justice, and Indigenous studies, this work seeks to highlight the challenges that continue to affect investigative outcomes, while also advocating for more culturally informed and scientifically rigorous approaches.
Red Shadows is intended as both an academic resource and a platform for broader awareness, bridging the space between research, justice, and community impact. The intended audience is:
-
Upper-level undergraduate / graduate courses
-
Criminal Justice & Forensic Science programs
-
Anthropology & Indigenous studies programs
-
Policy & advocacy spaces (MMIW, DOJ, nonprofits)

The Indigenous Mound Research Network (IMRN) is an interdisciplinary initiative dedicated to the documentation, analysis, and preservation of Indigenous mound sites through advanced geospatial technologies and culturally informed research practices.
IMRN integrates tools such as LiDAR, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), aerial imaging, and spatial data mapping to identify, document, and protect historically significant landscapes that are often underrepresented, threatened, or at risk of disturbance.
Rooted in a commitment to ethical stewardship, IMRN prioritizes Indigenous perspectives, sovereignty, and cultural sensitivity in all aspects of its work. The network seeks to bridge gaps between scientific research, cultural resource management, and community knowledge by creating a structured, data-informed platform for responsible site documentation and analysis.
In addition to research, IMRN supports education, training, and collaboration across disciplines—including anthropology, archaeology, forensic science, and environmental studies—while fostering partnerships with Tribal Nations, academic institutions, and preservation organizations.
Through its work, IMRN aims to elevate Indigenous histories, safeguard cultural landscapes, and contribute to a more accurate and respectful understanding of the past using modern scientific methodologies.
